I soldered together a simple circuit of two blue LEDs, a switch, CR2023 batteries, and the appropriate resistors to embed into some artificial white roses, making my own prom corsage to match the LED petticoat of my dress.
My dress was the Starry Night dress by Marchesa Notte, purchased off a Rent the Runway sample sale for $75. The petticoat was made from a swath of tulle attached to an elastic around my waist, with a very long string of RGB LEDs sewn in at various points, like stars in the sky. I had a pocket in the petticoat to hold a portable phone charger battery that powered the lights and the IR receiver for the remote to change the light colors. I also wore this dress for the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Gala at the Kennedy Space Center during my brief time as a space ambassador. (and sweated through the Florida heat while watching Duran Duran)
I made a vlog documenting the build process (and a rather sad prom "get ready with me") here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wri5fXNIGOo&ab_channel=S.Ahteck
I did not have a prom date for any of the three proms I went to as a yearbook photographer, and therefore a lack of pictures is evident. I did make a series of vlog videos that have now been watched thousands of times by teenagers that did not have a normal prom due to the coronavirus pandemic.
